To the left, the Details
section of WGM is displayed.
As you can see, you are
now able to see each plist
file that is managed. The
button on the bottom,
“Add”, allows for custom, or
other plist files to be added
to the object. In addition,
there is an option to edit the
settings. This allows you to
move some settings from
the “Always” to “Manage
once class. When using
WGM in Overview mode it is
an all or nothing shot for all
preferences in the window.
If you had a plist file for, say Office, you could change the save location in just one lab from a network standpoint.
Having this ability can be a great time saver when it comes to custom applications. This also means that you can
change settings en-masse just by restarting.
An example of that scenario is if a class is taking a test in a lab, and you don’t want them to be able to save to the
network. You could change the plist file to not mount the server in that lab, as well as prevent access to thumb
drives, or the connect to server dialog. You could also change the settings for Word, find the associated plist file,
and then attach it to the computer list group for the lab. When the class is done, restart the machines, revert the
settings, and the changes are gone.
